What is Impregnation?

Three different types of porous structure are formed after casting.

These are:
1) Clogged Pores
2) Open pores on one side
3) Pores open on both sides.

Through the impregnation process, open pores are completely filled.

Mechanical treatments applied after impregnation can reveal clogged pores, inactivating the sealing feature.

Note: For best impregnation results, your parts must be completely degreased and the open pores must be clean and dry. First, a vacuum of less than 10 mbar is applied to evacuate the air trapped in the pores.

By means of the applied vacuum, the impregnating resin fills all the voids and pores in the material.

The vacuum is then lifted and atmospheric pressure is used to penetrate the resin to the deepest and finest point of the pores.

In the washing bath, the surface is cleaned of excess resin. After impregnation, there is no need to wash again.

To complete the impregnation process, the parts are cured in a polymerization bath at 90°C. During this process, the resin that has filled the pores hardens rapidly from the surface and prevents the resin in the pores from flowing out. This ensures that the pores remain completely filled with resin.

Vacuum drying ensures that the parts are perfectly dried. They are protected from moisture and consequently from corrosion.
